In my quest to stop looking like a tired ragged old mom, I was recently in the market for a nice face highlighter. Something that would make me look like Megan Fox. A girl can dream, right?! Sadly I didn’t find anything quite that good out there, but I did find something that is totally awesome.

High Beam by Benefit. High Beam is an etheral pink liquid highighter that creates a radiantly dewy complexion. It’s shimmer pink formula gives of a luminescent opalescent glow that is not at all glittery. I love it. It really highlights the cheekbones in a very natural way. I give it my highest rating: ‘Absolutely Delightful’! It’s awesome. I’m so in love with it, I might just marry it.

I have to say though, I’m not crazy about the nail polish like packaging. Not because it isn’t functional; more because I have a bit of an aversion to putting nail polish on my face. However, the product itself is nothing like nail polish and the sheer fabulousness of High Beam more than makes up for the packaging.

I adore the smokey eye look. I’ve long coveted the eye make-up of a certain celebutant who’s name may or may not rhyme with Tim Fardashian. I may have even possibly spent time on her website…but I only read it for the pictures, I swear! Anyways, I have found that this look is really hard to recreate. At least it’s hard if you’re not aiming to look like you’ve just gone a round with Mike Tyson. Also, it’s time consuming. And unlike Tim Fardashian, I have two kids, a husband, and a laundry pile to deal with every day.

So, the question is…

Is it really okay for me wear the smokey eye look with my daily mom uniform (yoga pants and nearest clean nursing top)? Probably not. The playground can’t handle the foxiness that is the nursingyogapantwearing smokey eye.

Sleepless nights with my son Muffin had me looking like I could join the local zoo’s raccoon exhibit. Those pesky dark circles are sure hard to cover! I like wine and I like chocolate. I also like to be able to fit into my clothes. What’s a girl to do?! Well, I’ve heard that keeping a food intake journal can help. If I have to admit to eating it by writing it down, I’m far less slightly less likely to put that tablespoon of nutella in my mouth. So, I recently went on a mission to find a good calorie counter website and came across MyPlate by LiveStrong. It’s awesome! The basic membership is free and includes access to their calorie counter and you can even keep an account that will track your weight loss, both in pounds and inches. It will also track your workouts and calories burned, and also provides a nifty pie chart of your daily intake of carbs, protein and fat. Now, only if it had a built in lie detector.

Now, busy and/or frazzled moms can take heart. Those tragic non-outfits we throw on and hair that goes unbrushed just so we can get out the door somewhat on time is now considered high-fashion and Bloomingdale’s runway worthy. Nicole Richie recently debuted her Winter Kate Spring Collection and her choice of outfit to introduce the line was…unfortunate. Proof that anyone can be considered a “fashionista”! Well, I guess I’ll stop here…because, you know, if you can’t say anything nice…

Recently post-baby body reveals have become a staple of the weekly gossip mags. Fact is, these stories sell, but most of them are fraudulent. Take for instance OK Magazine’s cover of Kourtney Kardashian. Total bull. Even Kardashian herself slammed the mag for their photoshopping. So ladies who have just had a baby, take heart. If you are 3 months post-baby and still haven’t lost the baby weight, you are totally normal! It’s frustrating for sure. In fact it sucks. I want to fit into my clothes and look good in them again! We just have to remember that it took 9 months to grow the body out, so let’s cut ourselves some slack and give ourselves some time to get back to where we were. I guess I only have 8 months then, since Madam Poopsalot was a month premature. Oh crap! Better do some sit ups now.
