Today after I picked Muffin up from preschool, I asked him if he wanted to help me run an errand. He didn’t. Okay, well, we were going to do it anyways. Gala apples are on sale at Von’s for 77 cents per pound and it’s the last day. We were going regardless. So as we are driving into the strip mall where Von’s is located, I see Baskin & Robbins and simultaneously realize that it’s Tuesday. This means $1 scoop day! I have been thinking about taking Muffin there since he’s never been (we are a *Fro Yo at Go Spo family). So, he is beside himself excited when I ask him if he’d like to visit the ice cream store when we’re done with our errand in Von’s. The joy on his face and the excitement in his voice is starting to give me the feeling of the best mom ever. We walk over to B&R and I hoist him up to look at all the flavors. Now, I was going to pick a flavor for him but he was so excited about the “purple one”, and it was even frozen yogurt with blueberries, so I thought okay he can choose for himself. Critical Mom Error. I should have known that it was a ridiculously dumb idea to let my preschooler choose his ice cream based on color. The flavor ended up being lemon blueberry yogurt. He chose a cup instead of a cone (thank goodness since he was wearing a white t-shirt) and he proceeded outside to enjoy his precious cup of heaven. He took 3 bites and then I noticed he was playing with it instead of eating it. Turns out lemon blueberry frozen yogurt isn’t the flavor for an-almost-three-year-old’s palate. He said, “I want a different ice cream. I want a brown one.” Well, I can’t exactly let my child keep ordering flavors if he doesn’t like the one he’s chosen. So, I told him no that was the ice cream he chose and asked him if he would prefer to throw it away than eat it. Yes, mommy. So in the garbage it went. That was not the fun Mommy & Muffin ice cream outing I was expecting. I think I was as disappointed as he was…possibly more.
